Persian Darbar began its journey on 13 June 1976, founded by Mr. Abubakar Kotwala and Mr. Umar Bakshi, along with three close friends. What started as a small restaurant built on passion and honesty soon became one of Mumbai’s most loved Mughlai dining destinations.

The commitment was clear from the beginning—quality that never changes, flavours that stay in your memory, and consistency you can trust. Our signature dishes, especially the legendary Mutton Raan Tandoori, rich biryanis, and Mughlai classics, turned Persian Darbar into a name people grew up with. By the late ’80s, the founders were proudly known as “The Raan Kings of Mumbai.” In the 1990s, the legacy was handed over to the next generation—Mr. Javed Kotwala and Mr. Faisal Bakshi, the current owners of Persian Darbar. They protected the original soul of the brand while transforming the dining experience with modern interiors, comfortable seating, and a royal ambiance. 

Under their leadership came unique experiences like Deewan-e-Khas, a Mughal-inspired dining room; Khayma, Mumbai’s first Turkish tent-themed space; a fully dedicated takeaway kitchen; and private dining areas such as Baradari and Mashrabiya. In 2022, Persian Darbar introduced the grand Sheesh Mahal Banquet, designed for weddings, celebrations, and special occasions. Over the decades, dishes like Mutton Dum Pukht Biryani, Butter Chicken, Tandoori specials, seafood delicacies, and vegetarian favourites have continued to define our flavour. NRIs and tourists from around the world still make Persian Darbar their first stop when they visit Mumbai, proving that some tastes are truly unforgettable.

Generations of families, travellers, celebrities, and food lovers have made memories at Persian Darbar. Many guests who once visited as children now return with their own families, turning meals into traditions that last a lifetime.

Through challenges like rising costs, competition, and even the pandemic, Persian Darbar remained committed to serving trusted, comforting flavours. With the guidance of Mr. Javed Kotwala and Mr. Faisal Bakshi owners of Persian Darbar , the brand continued reaching homes across Mumbai with safe, heartfelt deliveries.

Our journey has been recognized with awards from Zomato, Times Food, Swiggy, Mumbai City Icon, Brupp, JustDial, MouthShut, Ahaar, Sobo, Grace Network, and Times Hospitality (Iconic Mughlai Restaurant 2025). Each award reflects the trust and love of our customers.


As we enter our Golden Jubilee year in 2026, Persian Darbar continues to celebrate its heritage with original 1976 recipes, special experiences, and five decades of togetherness.
